Terms & Conditions

These are the rules for using the Adaptive Academic System, operated by AALS SOLE TRADER. They are written to keep the platform useful, fair and safe for every student on it. By creating an account or continuing to use the service, you agree to them.

Who you are contracting with

  • The Adaptive Academic System (AALS, myacadema.app) is provided by AALS SOLE TRADER, trading as AALS. Your agreement for use of the service is with AALS SOLE TRADER.
  • By creating an account, buying a plan, or continuing to use the service you accept these Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy.
  • You confirm that you are of legal age to enter this agreement, or that you have permission from a parent or guardian, and that the information you give us is accurate.
  • AALS SOLE TRADER owns the service and all intellectual property in it — the software, algorithms, documentation, branding and content we provide. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service under your chosen plan. You may not reverse engineer, resell, redistribute or circumvent technical limits of the service.
  • We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Paid plans, payment and subscriptions

  • AALS offers a free plan and paid subscription plans (Premium and Premium Plus), available monthly or yearly. Current prices and allowances are shown on the pricing and subscription pages before you buy.
  • Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
  • Payment, billing, currency, taxes, invoicing, renewals, cancellations and refunds are handled by Paddle and governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms at https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the subscription page in the app or through Paddle at paddle.net; access continues until the end of the paid period.
  • Prices are displayed in Botswana Pula for convenience; the amount actually charged is the underlying currency shown at checkout.
  • Your paid entitlements are activated once payment is confirmed by Paddle, and revert to the free plan if a subscription expires, is cancelled or a payment fails.
  • Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Acceptable use

  • Use the system for your own studies, planning, reflection and academic collaboration.
  • Be respectful in community groups, questions, answers and messages.
  • Do not harass, bully, impersonate, spam or share content that is illegal, hateful or explicit.
  • Do not attempt to access other students' accounts or data, probe the platform's security, or automate abusive volumes of requests.
  • Do not use the system to commit academic misconduct. Passing AI output off as your own work where your institution forbids it is your responsibility, not ours.

Your account

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter and for everything done through your account.
  • Keep your login details private and do not share your account.
  • Tell an administrator promptly if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.

AI usage limits and fair use

  • AI features have a daily allowance. Limits depend on your tier and can be adjusted by administrators.
  • Requests are counted and enforced on the server. When you reach your limit, AI features pause until the allowance resets.
  • Do not attempt to bypass limits, create multiple accounts for extra allowance, or send oversized or automated request volumes.

No guarantee of results

  • The Adaptive Academic System and Nova are academic support tools. They do not guarantee grades, GPA improvements, exam passes, placements or any other academic or career outcome.
  • Predictions, readiness scores and recommendations are estimates based on the data you supply.

Verify important information

  • Examination dates, deadlines, timetables, assessment weights and AI-generated recommendations must be checked against official university communications.
  • We are not responsible for missed deadlines or examinations arising from reliance on information in the app.

Suspension and termination

  • Accounts, community profiles, tutor profiles and groups may be suspended, banned or removed for abuse, harassment, misuse of AI, security violations or breaches of these terms.
  • Serious or repeated violations may result in permanent termination of access.

Content you upload

  • You keep ownership of the notes, documents and materials you upload.
  • You confirm you have the right to upload them and that doing so does not infringe anyone's copyright or your institution's rules.
  • You grant the platform permission to process your uploads solely to deliver features to you — such as extracting outlines, building plans and generating study material.
  • Infringing or inappropriate uploads may be removed.

AI features and generated content

  • Nova and the extraction, quiz, flashcard and feedback features are generative AI. Outputs can be inaccurate or incomplete and are not professional, legal, medical or financial advice — always verify anything that matters against your official university sources.
  • You are responsible for your prompts, for the content you upload, for having the rights to that content, and for how you use the outputs, including complying with your institution's academic-integrity rules.
  • You must not use AI features to generate illegal content, hate speech, harassment, deepfakes, malware, or to attempt to jailbreak or extract the underlying models.
  • We may filter, refuse, remove or restrict content and outputs, and may suspend accounts that misuse AI features. If you believe content infringes your rights, contact us and we will review and remove infringing material; repeat infringers lose access.

Liability

  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability to you is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
  • We are not liable for indirect, consequential or special damages, including lost profits, lost data, lost marks or lost opportunities.
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
  • You indemnify us against claims arising from content you upload, your unlawful use of the service, or your breach of these Terms.

Governing law

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of Botswana, and the courts of Botswana have jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence.
  • You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of the business.
  • Neither party is liable for failure to perform due to events beyond its reasonable control.

Changes to the service

  • Features may be added, changed, or withdrawn as the system evolves.
  • These documents may be updated. If they change substantially, you will be asked to review and accept the new version before continuing.
